When no one believed I could dream

In the quiet corners of Central Vietnam, some children grow up never hearing the words "You can do it." Their days are shaped by survival, not ambition. Education is a luxury. Clothes are handed down until they’re threadbare. And dreams? Dreams are something other people have.

That’s the world Thảo grew up in.

She was a child from a rural village, surrounded by mountains, silence, and low expectations. There was no encouragement. No resources. Just a girl walking barefoot to school with a plastic bag for a backpack. And yet, somehow, the dream stayed alive.

She worked hard. She studied at night by the light of a single bulb. She passed exams when no one thought she could. And today, Thảo is not just a college graduate — she’s an accountant with an IT background, helping children who remind her of herself.

When no one believed she could dream, she did anyway.

And now, Lighting Up Dreams is here to make sure no child has to dream alone again.

We believe in the kids who are told to keep their heads down. We believe in showing them what’s possible — with education, support, and a chance to see the world beyond their village.

Because when someone believes in your dream, even the smallest spark can light up the future.

If I had a magic wand…

If I had a magic wand:

  • I’d give every kid a school bag with real zippers and pencils that don’t break.

  • I’d fill classrooms with stories about astronauts and oceans and animals we’ve never seen.

  • I’d make sure nobody ever had to skip school because they didn’t have shoe.

If I had a magic wand:

  • I’d build a library in the middle of my village, and paint it yellow like the sun.

  • There would be tables where we could dream about being doctors, teachers, or maybe architects.

If I had a magic wand:

  • My mum wouldn’t worry about torn shirts, or borrowed books.

  • She would smile because she knows I have a future.

But I don’t have a magic wand, I have something else — You!

With your help:

  • We we can turn quiet wishes into loud laughter.

  • We can turn if into when.

  • And we can turn dreams into real, beautiful lives.

Seeing the city for the first time

The first time we took a group of village kids to the city, their eyes grew wide with every turn of the road.

Buildings stretched up like trees they’d never seen. Cars honked. Lights changed colors. Elevators moved without anyone pushing. And on the 10th floor of a library, a boy whispered, “Are we in the clouds?”

For many of these children, the city is a distant rumor — a place from textbooks or television.

But when they walk its streets, something shifts. They see students in uniforms, bookstores with walls of color, and art galleries full of questions.

They feel the pace of possibility.

One girl looked at a university building and said,
“I didn’t know this could be for people like me.”

These moments aren’t just fun trips. They’re jolts of transformation.

They challenge what’s “normal” and replace it with what’s possible.

They plant seeds that say,
“You belong in the world beyond the rice field.”

At Lighting Up Dreams, we don’t just support education — we open windows to the bigger picture.

Because one visit to the city can become the first step toward a dream no one thought to imagine.

I want to be a receptionist because she always smiles

When we asked a young girl what she wanted to be when she grew up, she didn’t say doctor, teacher, or engineer. She said:
“I want to be a receptionist… because she always smiles.”

To a child from a small village, a receptionist isn’t just someone who answers phones.
She’s the first person they see when they walk into a building they’ve never been in before.

She wears clean clothes, speaks with confidence, and makes people feel welcome.
She looks like someone who belongs.

That moment reminded us: dreams don’t have to be big to be powerful.

Sometimes, they begin with a feeling — safety, kindness, dignity — and grow from there.

At Lighting Up Dreams, we never judge the size of a dream.
We support it, nurture it, and surround it with encouragement.
Because even a smile can spark a future.

You can help the next dream begin

Every dream starts with a spark... a book, a bus ride, a smile, a chance.

Some children are still waiting for their first spark.

At Lighting Up Dreams, we believe that dreams don’t just belong to the lucky or the wealthy — they belong to every child who dares to imagine something more.
But imagination needs support. Hope needs action. And change needs people like you.

Your gift — no matter the size — can help send a child to school, buy a clean uniform, or fund their first trip to the city. You’re not just giving money, you’re lighting the way forward.

Because behind every dream is someone who believed in it first.
Will you be that someone?
